The Seniors section at Chevin continues to thrive boosted by new members and those “coming of age”. We have a full program of events and competitions for 2017 which together with the roll-up groups provide plenty of opportunity for mid-week golf.
As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer it’s time to start thinking about the new season of Seniors matches. This year we have 17 fixtures including those that were added last year; Chatsworth with its lovely views of the house and gardens and Cavendish which was designed by MacKenzie who together with Bobby Jones designed Augusta. Seniors matches are good fun and are played in a spirit of friendly rivalry. It gives us the chance to meet new adversaries and renew old friendships.
We also have a number of Seniors Competitions during the year:
Dailey Driver on 11th September
Seniors Mens Open on 18th September
DAMMIT Trophy on 18th October
Festive Bowl on 13th December
Seniors Captains Away day (date to be confirmed but likely to be held in October once this year’s Seniors fixtures have been completed)
So for those of us that have crossed the threshold and can count ourselves part of the Chevin Seniors section we have a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

Chevin Seniors have played two more matches; at home to Alfreton on 3rd May and away at Matlock on 17th. Both matches were closely contested, especially Matlock where we had heavy rain for most of the match. Despite this they were both enjoyable days where good golf, good company and good food was enjoyed. We narrowly lost both matches 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 but look forward to reversing this in the return matches.
For those of us that can't make the minimum number of three qualifying competitions but still want to retain an active handicap the club operates a system which allows the submission of supplementary cards. The club process for supplementary cards is for an individual to register the intent to play a supplementary card with Willie prior to the round – he logs it in his register, the card is marked as ‘Supplementary’, signed/dated by player and marker, noting the tee box used (white, yellow or blue are now all ‘measured courses with SSS’) and returned to Willie for entry into the IG database. Up to 10 such cards can be played over the year as an alternative means of managing handicap 'supplementing’ the normal qualifying comp entry route.
Chevin Seniors played a home match against Rushcliffe on Wednesday 31st May. This was due to be the away leg of our fixtures with Rushcliffe but they had it down to play at Chevin. Fortunately we were able to accommodate the fixture at Chevin so many thanks to Martyn, Lynn, Bridget and Sue for making it happen at very short notice and providing an excellent meal. A very enjoyable day was had by all and the guys from Rushcliffe were very complimentary about the club and the course. I am pleased to say that Chevin won 6:1. Our results to date are; won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1. Hopefully our next match, which is away to Chatsworth will result in us being up for the season to date.
Chevin Seniors played an away match against Chatsworth on Wednesday 14th June. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day; the weather was great, the course and greens good (a new par 5 but still no bunkers hurrah!), the views superb, our hosts friendly and generous, the meal and ale delicious! What more could we want? A win perhaps? Well we got that too by 4:2! Thanks to all who played.
Our results to date are now won 3, lost 2 and drawn 1. Next match is away to Breadsall on the 13th July so sign up now!
